International Schools Outside Jakarta

Outside the capital the market moves fast: several schools below have rebranded, changed curriculum or gained full IB accreditation since this list was last checked, and Bali alone has added three new schools since 2025. Confirm current fees, curriculum and accreditation with the school directly before enrolling.

Some mining and oil companies still run schools for staff dependants - Independent Schools Riau (Chevron), Sekolah Buin Batu (PT Amman Mineral), Tanjung Bara International School (Kaltim Prima Coal, Sangatta). Most stay restricted to employee families, though a few now take limited outside enrolment; they are not listed below.

Bali

• AIS Bali - Australian Curriculum to Year 10, then IB Diploma; ages 3-18.
• Bali Island School (formerly Bali International School) - IB World School, PYP/MYP/DP; Preschool to Grade 12.
• Gandhi Memorial Intercontinental School - fully authorised IB continuum; Nursery to Grade 12.
• Green School Bali - own WASC-accredited diploma with AP courses, no IB; Pre-K to Grade 12.

Since 2025 Bali has also gained The British School of Bali (Ubud), Uluwatu School and ACS Bali (Kura Kura development) - part of a boom that has taken the island to roughly 35 international schools.

Balikpapan

• AIS Balikpapan - Australian Curriculum to Year 10, then IB Diploma.
• KiCS (formerly Kiefschools) - Kindergarten to secondary.
• Pasir Ridge International School - American curriculum, WASC accredited, Preschool to Grade 8; Chevron-area, mainly employee families.
• Prabu International School - Indonesian national curriculum; ages 3-11.
• Raffles Independent School (formerly Raffles International School) - Cambridge-accredited; ages 4-18.

Bandung

• Bandung Independent School (formerly Bandung International School) - full IB continuum; ages 2-18.
• Bandung Alliance Intercultural School - American curriculum with AP, ACSI/WASC accredited; Preschool to Grade 12.
• Nehru Memorial International School - Cambridge IGCSE, AS and A-Level; from age 3.5.

Batam

• Independent School Batam (formerly International School Batam) - Cambridge Primary and Secondary to IGCSE.

Cilegon

• SIS Cilegon - Singapore curriculum at preschool/primary, Cambridge Checkpoint and IGCSE at secondary; ages 2-16.

Papua (formerly "Irian Jaya")

Irian Jaya has not been an official name since 2002, when the province was renamed Papua; since 2022 the region has been split into six provinces (Papua, Papua Barat, Papua Tengah, Papua Pegunungan, Papua Selatan, Papua Barat Daya). Sentani sits in Jayapura Regency, Papua province.

• Hillcrest School, Sentani (formerly Hillcrest International School) - American curriculum with Christian worldview plus AP; Kindergarten to Grade 12. Serves missionary, foreign and local families.

Karawang

• Texmaco DPS International School - CBSE (Indian) curriculum; first CBSE-affiliated school in Southeast Asia.

Makassar

• Makassar International School - UK National Curriculum to IGCSE and A-Level, Cambridge examination centre; the only registered international school in Sulawesi.

Malang

• Wesley International School - American Christian curriculum, ACSI/WASC accredited; ages 2-17.

Medan

• Medan Independent School (formerly Medan International School) - only IB continuum school in Sumatra, blended with American standards.
• SIS Medan - Singapore curriculum, Cambridge at secondary, IB Diploma at Junior College level.
• PrimeOne School - Cambridge curriculum, IGCSE and A-Level; Early Years to Senior High.

Purwakarta

• Rama Global School (formerly Rama International School) - ICSE curriculum (CISCE, New Delhi); Nursery to Class VIII, admissions extending to IX/XI.

Salatiga

• Mountainview International Christian School - American curriculum, Christian worldview; Kindergarten to Grade 12. Founded 1981 as Central Java Inter-Mission School, renamed 2002.

Semarang

• Semarang Multinational School (formerly Semarang International School) - International Early Years/Primary Curriculum, Cambridge Lower Secondary, IGCSE, plus Duke of Edinburgh's Award. No longer IB-affiliated.

Surabaya

• Sekolah Ciputra Surabaya - full IB continuum, largest in East Indonesia.
• Surabaya European School - Montessori early years, then Cambridge to IGCSE and A-Level; ages 3-18.
• SpInS Interactional School (formerly Sophomore International School) - Cambridge curriculum alongside the Indonesian national curriculum.
• SIS Surabaya and Surabaya Intercultural School (IB PYP) are separate, more recent additions.

Yogyakarta

• Yogyakarta Independent School (formerly Yogyakarta International School) - full IB continuum; ages 3-18.
