Recommended Hospitals & Dentists

Most foreign residents in Jakarta use private, internationally accredited hospitals and clinics with English-speaking, often foreign-trained doctors. For routine care, international group-practice clinics handle day-to-day medicine and coordinate evacuations; for serious cases the benchmark is JCI (Joint Commission International) accreditation, held by RS Pondok Indah and by the larger Siloam and Mayapada networks. Pair a good hospital with international insurance that covers medical evacuation to Singapore. When choosing a clinic, check that it is staffed overnight, that its ambulance is properly equipped, and that any medical plan you buy includes evacuation cover.

Health cover is now a legal obligation, not merely prudent. BPJS Kesehatan, the national health-insurance scheme, is compulsory for foreigners working six months or more and is usually arranged through your employer; it is referral-gated — you start at a first-level clinic and get a referral onward — and it excludes cosmetic surgery and treatment at foreign hospitals. Separately, a KITAS requires proof of private health insurance from an Indonesian-registered insurer, checked when you extend the permit.
