Sexiest Legislative Candidates

Is it an election or a beauty pageant? Political parties used to hire sexy singers and actresses to enliven otherwise boring campaign rallies, which people were paid to attend. This year, many parties have recruited celebrities to run for office. Here are some of the legislative candidates getting attention for their looks. Not all of them are just pretty faces.


Destiya Purna Panca (Destiara Talita alias Tata)

Party: Indonesian Justice and Unity Party (PKPI)
Constituency: West Java District VIII (Indramayu and Cirebon regencies, Cirebon city).
Born: 23 December 1988 (25 on election day).
Occupation: Model. Finalist in Babes From Net, Season 2 (2013). Appeared in Popular and FHM magazines. Tweeted that she dislikes TV soap operas, infotainment and gossip shows, and instead prefers news about social issues and corruption.
Result: 203 votes (of 2,218,567 votes cast). Not elected.

Constituency: Jakarta II (North Jakarta and Thousand Islands).
Born: 27 October 1985 (28 on election day).
Occupation: Dangdut singer. Owns a beauty salon, cafe and boutique. Has a degree in accounting from Al Azhar University in Medan, North Sumatra.
Result: 612 votes (of 2,002,301 votes cast). Not elected.

Constituency: Central Java’s District V (Boyolali, Klaten and Sukoharjo regencies, Surakarta city).

Occupation: Actress and singer. Ex-wife of dangdut music 'King' Rhoma Irama, who is a presidential candidate for the National Awakening Party (PKB).
Result: 18,004 votes (of 2,226,910 votes cast). Most votes of any PPP candidate in the constituency, but not enough to beat candidates of six other parties. Not elected.

Party: Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra)
Constituency: West Java District II (Bandung and West Bandung regencies). Served in the DPR for Gerindra for 2009-2014. Seeking re-election.
Born: 20 April 1980 (33 on election day).
Occupation: Actress and model. Was one of several models filmed by a hidden camera while getting undressed at the studio of Jakarta fashion photographer Budi Han in 1997. The nude footage ended up on DVDs and online. The exposure gave her career a boost.
Result: 58,578 votes (of 2,686,258 votes cast). Elected.

Occupation: Former Miss Indonesia (1994) and soap opera actress. Also appeared in health, fitness and dance DVDs. Has written a book on wellbeing.
Result: 49,383 votes (of 2,502,827 votes cast). Elected.

Occupation: Model, actress and reality show presenter.
Result: 48,306 votes (of 2,271,635 votes cast). Two other PKB candidates for the constituency received more votes. Not elected.

Constituency: West Java District IV (Sukabumi city and regency). Served in the DPR for the Democrats for 2009-2014. Seeking re-election.

Occupation: Former TV commercial star and soap opera actress. Wife of Cooperatives Minister Syarief Hasan, who is 27 years her senior. Made the tabloid headlines in 2013, strongly denying rumors she had an affair with her stepson.
Result: 30,772 votes (of 1,432,599 votes cast). The most votes of any Democratic Party candidate for the constituency, but not enough to beat candidates of five other parties. Not elected.

Result: 45,803 votes (of 1,672,114 votes cast). The most votes of any PKB candidate for the constituency, but not enough to beat candidates of six other parties. Not elected.

Occupation: Former actress. Was a legislator with the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) from 2004 until expelled in 2006 for becoming the running mate of Banten governor candidate Zulkieflimansyah of Party Syarikat Islam. In 2007 she joined PPP. In 2012 she joined PAN.
Result: 23,157 votes (of 1,106,368 votes cast). Not elected.

Constituency: North Sumatra District I (Medan, Deli Serdang, Serdang Bedagai and Tebing Tinggi).
Born: 3 May 1978 (35 on election day).
Occupation: Former Metro TV presenter. In February 2005 she and a cameraman were kidnapped in Iraq and held hostage for a week. She later wrote a book about the ordeal. In 2010, Meutya contested the mayoral election in Binjai city in North Sumatra. She and her running mate Dhani Setiawan Isma were supported by Golkar, the Democratic Party, Hanura, PAN and other parties. They narrowly lost the election and claimed they were the victims of fraud, spoiled ballots and other irregularities. The Constitutional Court, which has a track record of awarding disputed election results to the highest bidders, rejected her demand for a recount. In August 2010, Meutya was appointed to the House of Representatives, replacing deceased Golkar legislator Burhanuddin Napitupulu. Despite being a former Metro TV presenter, she declined to join the Nasdem Party of Metro TV boss Surya Paloh.

Hanura did not fire her but instead encouraged her to report the matter to police. She claimed the person who took the photo tried to blackmail her for Rp 25 million. Eva denied she was smoking drugs, claiming the photo was engineered and she had merely been sipping an energy drink through a straw.
